Power System Studies are a vital part of a well-maintained electrical system.  When performing the power system studies of short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies there are many errors that can be made that will impact the results.  These errors can be from lack of information modeled, input error or lack of understanding of system operation.  This talk will go through the different study applications and identify both where these errors can occur and how to spot them during a review.  This talk will utilize SKM, a power systems analysis software, to highlight where the errors can be made and how to spot them. This talk will help both the power system engineer who is performing the studies but also the end user to quickly validate that the results that they have are correct.  By ensuring the correct results are present the end user can utilize the information found in the report to help improve their facility as well as provide their workers with the information that allows them to make informed decisions while performing tasks that expose them to an electrical and arc flash hazard.

Biography:

Kevin Maynard PE is the engineering manager for Potomac Testing an IPS Company.  Kevin has seen electrical hazards from the person in the field as a NETA technician to the engineering and design side as a power systems engineer.  Kevin is a published author in both IEEE and NETA publications.  Kevin is a licensed Professional Engineer in 11 states and has been appointed as the electrical engineer to the building codes review panel advisory board in Pennsylvania.

PLEASE MAKE NOTE OF THESE IMPORTANT NEW INSTRUCTIONS STARTING SEPTEMBER 2026:

We will be alternating again this year between the Cragwood Road and Hadley Road locations.  New security procedures now require advanced clearance for entry to the buildings.  Effective immediately, registration will close at 5PM the evening before the event.  There will be no late registrations permitted.  PLEASE DO NOT ASK ME TO IMPOSE ON OUR GENEROUS HOST FOR ANY EXCEPTIONS TO THIS POLICY.

The seminar fee includes lunch, refreshments and handouts.  Non-members joining IEEE within 30 days of the seminar will be rebated 50% of the IEEE registration charge.

Four hours of instruction will be provided.  If desired, IEEE Continuing Education Units (0.4 CEUs) will be offered for this course - a small fee of $55 will be required for processing.

Please pay attention to the “Registration Fee” and choose the appropriate choice either with or without CEUs.
