Technical Session on RF System Engineering for Probing the Cosmic Origins
Lecture Topic: RF System Engineering for Probing the Cosmic Origins
Abstract: This talk will provide a comprehensive introduction to key terminologies in Radio Astronomy and precision Cosmology experiments, aiming to bridge the gap between engineering and science. It will then present an overview of three ongoing experiments at Raman Research Institute aimed at detecting extremely faint cosmic signals to probe the evolution of the universe. Particular emphasis will be placed on the antenna and RF system-related challenges inherent in ground-based and space-based precision cosmology experiments. The talk will also showcase recent developments at RRI in antenna design and high-sensitivity radiometer architectures that are central to advancing these experiments.

Biography:
S. Keerthipriya is a Scientist in the Electronics Engineering group of Raman Research Institute, specialising in RF and Microwave engineering. She earned her M.Tech from the Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST) in 2019, and in 2020, she joined the Raman Research Institute (RRI). She is simultaneously pursuing her Ph.D from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Her work focuses on the design and development of high-sensitivity antennas and radiometers for applications in astronomy and cosmology. She has played a key role in the development of Analog and RF systems for both ground-based and space-based experiments ongoing at RRI. At present, her research is focused on the design of high-sensitivity radiometers with a particular emphasis on novel antenna designs, advanced antenna analysis techniques, RF system design, cryogenic systems, and high-precision calibration strategies. She is the recipient of the IEEE AP-S graduate fellowship for 2024 and the Young Scientist Award in URSI-GASS 2026. As an IEEE volunteer since 2013, she has served in numerous positions at both student branch level as well as society chapter level. She is currently the executive member of the IEEE Bangalore Section AP/MTT and Wireless Antennas Microwave Symposium Society. She also serves as an executive member of the Global MTT-S YP. She is the recipient of the Young professional special recognition award and young professional exemplary contribution award from WAMS society for 2024 and 2025.
