Organisations operating in multi-stakeholder environments increasingly require trusted, verifiable data trails to support transparency, auditability, compliance and collaboration. While blockchain technology offers compelling capabilities in these settings, translating its potential into practical, sustainable solutions presents significant technical, organisational and institutional challenges, including limited technical capacity, stakeholder buy-in, coordination and implementation costs. Drawing on lessons from real-world implementations, this talk explores pragmatic architectural approaches and design principles, including API-first integration, complementing rather than replacing existing systems, and navigating trade-offs between decentralisation, trust assumptions and operational realities. The discussion also considers broader questions of data sovereignty, interoperability and digital public infrastructure, highlighting the opportunities and constraints of deploying blockchain solutions in emerging-market contexts.
