Best Design Practices for Isolated Power Systems in Healthcare Facilities
Summary: NFPA-99 made changes designating all Operating Rooms as Wet Procedure Locations, unless a documented risk assessment proves otherwise. While this does not change the requirements for Isolated Power Systems (IPS) per NFPA-70 Article 517, the utilization of IPS is increasing. This session will discuss the NEC and NFPA-99 code changes as related to isolated power systems. Furthermore, the session will discuss best practices in the design, installation, maintenance & usage of the systems. |
Learning Objectives 1: Identification of the NFPA-99's new risk based design approach and associated (Chapter 4) categories |
Learning Objectives 2: Understand the applicable codes & standards including NFPA-99 Code changes as it relates to Operating Rooms and spaces deemed as "Wet Procedure Locations" |
Learning Objectives 3: Understand the theory of operation of Isolated Power Systems and Line Isolation Monitors (LIMs) |
Learning Objectives 4: Understand best practices for the equipment selection, installation, and maintenance of Isolated Power Systems and Line Isolation Monitors (LIMs) |
