The 10th International Conference on the Frontiers of Plasma Physics and Technology (FPPT-10) was organized jointly by the IEEE EDS Nepal Chapter, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel, Nepal, and many national and international Scientific Organizations during 13-17 March 2023, Kathmandu, Nepal at two different venues: Hotel Mystic Mountain, Nagarkot, and Hotel Yak and Yeti, Durbar Marg, Kathmandu, Nepal. The EDS Nepal Chapter supported the conference both technically as well as financially. The national organizing committee was led by IEEE EDS Secretary Prof. Dr. Raju Khanal. This was the 10th conference in the series of “International conference on the Frontiers of Plasma Physics and Technology” and the series is being organized in different developing countries to encourage a large number of local researchers to participate in the conference. The earlier conferences were organized in different developing countries, including India (Bangalore-2002, Goa-2005), Thailand (Bangkok-2007), Nepal (Kathmandu-2009), Singapore (2011), Botswana (Gaborone-2013), India (Kochi-2015), Chile (Viña del Mar-2017) and Sri Lanka (Negombo-2019). The success of the preceding conferences in several countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America has encouraged us to further our mission. This series is planned to provide a unique opportunity to the researchers to directly interact with the worldwide experts and acquaint with the latest research topics. Researchers of all the nationalities were welcome to participate. The emphasis of the conference will be on all the frontier topics of plasma physics conferences and technologies and classified in the following three tracks but not limited to: Astrophysical, cosmic and space plasmas.

The Conference was attended by 101 participants from 21 different countries out of which 60 were the local participants with 11 IEEE members (from Nepal). The participants were from the following countries: Austria, Canada, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Indonesia, India, Italy, Israel, Japan, Nepal, Norway, PR of China, Russia, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, UAE, and UK. The first day of program was held on Hotel Mystic Mountain, Nagarkot that was inaugurated by Dean of Science and Technology, Prof. Binil Aryal by lightning Panas (a traditional lamp). In his address, Prof. Aryal expressed the importance of plasma technology and its impact on our society. He also pointed out the importance of astrophysical plasma to understand the beginning phase of universe. Prof. Tara Desai (Chair and Director of FPPT-10) highlighted the objectives of the Conference.

Altogether 44 oral talks and 35 posters were presented during 13 Scientific Sessions and 1 poster session. The research papers presented were from various fields of plasma physics: laser plasma interaction, tokamaks and other magnetic confinement fusion devices, theory (from astrophysics to laboratory plasma), heavy ion beams in fundamental material study and inertial confinement fusion, nano Science and related topics, plasma jets and applications, wires explosions studies and applications, plasma surface interaction, sheath physics, etc. In the 3rd day of conference, we arranged a popular talk in the Central Department of Physics, Tribhuvan University and also made excursion of historic places of Kirtipur. At the evening of that day, we arranged a cultural program with dinner at the venue of Nepal Tourism Board, Kathmandu, Nepal. All the 35 posters drew attention from the distinguished experts of various fields. Ample time was allotted for poster session especially to encourage young researchers by providing them with platform to present their work. The success of the session was also obvious from the fact that most of the presenters were busy explaining their works even hours after the official time for poster session was over. In order to motivate young researchers towards the poster session two “Best Poster Awards” were announced. In addition, one best oral presentation was announced.

The Conference was a success from different points of view. It was for the 2nd time that such a large number of high sounding international personalities attended the Conference in Nepal. It offered a unique opportunity to the Nepali researchers to directly interact with the internationally distinguished scientists. In addition, some of the local participants were successful in establishing first hand contact with some of the leading centers of plasma physics and to find research areas of mutual interest.
