The LACCEI Committee in Learning Engineering and Online Laboratories has the purpose of generating international collaboration among researchers from LACCEI member institutions, as well as promoting research and generation of proposals for grant

Hybrid Panel:
Trends and Experiences in Online Laboratories, Standards, Security Concerns and the Role of Emerging Technologies in the Development of Learning Engineering Processes

The goals of this panel are:
  • To create spaces of collaboration in the online laboratories area with LACCEI and IEEE communities.
  • To disseminate the current state of the development of online laboratories and the efforts of standardization.
  • To set the ground base for the study group being created for the next cycle of update of the 1876-2019 - IEEE Standard for Networked Smart Learning Objects for Online Laboratories

Under the Candidate leadership as the Chair of Montreal IEEE Education Society Chapter (2005 -2022), the Chapter received the “2019 Chapter Achievement Award for sustained contributions of innovative educational and professional activities in the community”.

Agenda

The format of the panel will be an open hybrid conversation round table with participants in person and remote through Zoom.

We will have 8 questions that we are going to ask the panelists to have some answers and a discussion.

1.What current global trends are shaping the development and adoption of online laboratories
in engineering education?
2. How can standardization efforts support the scalability and sustainability of remote
laboratories?
3. What are the key security and data privacy concerns associated with remote labs, and how
can institutions mitigate these risks?
4. In what ways are emerging technologies—such as AI, IoT—transforming the landscape of
online laboratories and learning engineering?
5. Can you share examples of successful international collaborations or funded projects
involving online laboratories? What lessons did you acquire from them?
6. How can remote laboratories be made more inclusive and accessible to under-resourced
institutions or students in developing regions?
7. What role does Learning Engineering play in designing, deploying, and assessing the
effectiveness of online laboratories?
8. What are the most urgent research gaps in the field of online laboratories, and how can we
foster collaborative proposals to address them?
