New and mid-level professionals will benefit from this presentation on the journey of engineers from an experienced engineer and recruiter at the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC), Sally McGehee. Organization and industry leaders are invited to gain Ms McGehee's insider strategies on how to engage with the Department of Navy (DON) as well.
Celebrate International Women in Engineering Day 2026 with San Diego IEEE and Sally McGehee, through her authentic stories and examples on the opportunities within the DON especially for women.
This session will engage all the participants through Ms. McGehee's insider insight as an engineer, as well as her recruiter role with the NIWC Pacific New Professional program, where she interviews EE, CS, ME, CE students and graduates and visits select university career fairs across the country to recruit engineering students.

Journey of Engineers in Department of Defense
An engineering career may take many paths. This presentation will be led by an experienced engineer and leader in the Department of Defense.
Sally McGehee is the PEO C4I Director of Science and Technology (S&T), and she is excited to share her experience and insight on the different opportunities within the Department of Navy.
Biography:
Sally G. McGehee currently serves as the Science and Technology (S&T) Director for the Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (PEO C4I). In this role, she directs a significant S&T portfolio, leading the entire lifecycle of technology development from planning and execution to fleet deployment.
With over a decade of experience at NIWC Pacific, Ms. McGehee has a proven track record of leadership and technical excellence. She has held progressively senior positions, including supervising a large branch of over 40 engineers and contractors and serving as the lead engineer for critical, multi-million dollar projects like the Real-Time Spectrum Operations (RTSO) modernization. Her career also includes vital engineering roles at Tinker Air Force Base with the B-2 Stealth Bomber program and a mobile landing communication system. She is a recruiter for NIWC Pacific's New Professional program, recruiting engineering graduates by interviewing candidates and visiting career fairs.
Ms. McGehee earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a Bachelor of Science in the same field from the University of Illinois, Chicago. She is a decorated professional, recognized with numerous awards for her leadership and technical contributions to the U.S. Navy.
In her free time, Ms. McGehee enjoys hiking and backpacking, the outdoors, audio books, cooking, and traveling, while raising her three children. She is an Assistant Scout Master in the Scouting America and leads various high adventure boy scout trips around the country.
