IEEE UP Lecture on Integration of Renewable Resources

The recent trends in industry suggest that renewable energy resources in particular wind, are growing at great pace. The plan is to achieve wind power equal to 20% of total installed capacity by 2030. It is a challenge to transmit the wind power to load centers which are miles away from the wind generation. Also the existing limited transmission access in wind-rich states makes the situation even worse. Further, it is equally important to understand the wind power characteristics in order to facilitate smooth integration and operation of the system. This presentation briefly covers the issues and challenges associated with integration of wind to the transmission grid. Also, the modeling of wind farms for load flow and dynamic studies is briefly covered.
