The introduction will overview the series of webinars and offer a short comparison of the tools. 

The main talk will focus on the educational and professional development opportunities provided by IEEE. It emphasizes IEEE's most fruitful initiatives for pre-university, university, and continuing education, highlighting the impact of STEM programs, learning, and professional advancement. It features various local IEEE Region 8 PEA initiatives, such as the Local Language Program, the Acceleration Program, and the Robot Championship, aimed at promoting educational and technical activities across our Region.

IEEE Educational Activities: the Gateway to your Career Growth

This talk by IEEE Region 8 (R8) Professional And Educational Activities Committee (PEAC) Chair Andrejs Romanovs (Latvia) will focus on the educational and professional development opportunities provided by IEEE. It emphasizes IEEE's most fruitful initiatives for pre-university, university, and continuing education, highlighting the impact of STEM programs, learning, and professional advancement. Biography:

Dr. Andrejs Romanovs, MBA, is an Associate Professor and Senior Researcher at Riga Technical University’s Information Technology Institute, director of two international Master study programs, “Cybersecurity Engineering” and “Logistics and Supply Chain Management”. With over 20 years of academic and 35 years of professional experience, his expertise includes MIS modeling, cybersecurity, AI, and IT governance. He is an expert in IT science, a member of ISACA, Latvian Simulation Society, and a prolific author with 150+ publications, organizer of 50+ international scientific conferences and contributing to several national and EU projects.

A.Romanovs is a senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Chairperson of IEEE Latvia Section (2012-2013, 2016-2017), Chair and members of different IEEE Committees, i.e. R8 Professional And Educational Activities Committee, R8 Chapter Coordination Committee, R8 Membership Development SubCommittee, MGA Admission and Advancement Committee, MGA Membership Recruitment and Recovery Committee, MGA Chapter Operations Support Committee, Educational Activities Board SEOC Committee. Founder of many sustainable IEEE organizational units, i.e. Computer Society Latvia Section Chapter (2010), Latvia Blockchain Group (2018), annual IEEE scientific conferences: Advances in Information, Electronic and Electrical Engineering (AIEEE, since 2013), Advances in Wireless and Optical Communications (MTTW, since 2015), Information Technology and Management Science (ITMS, since 2018).

Albert Lysko of Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)

Topic:

Introduction into the series of webinars on IEEE and non-IEEE tools for Education

This short talk will introduce the work and the committees that performed the work, and attempt to give a systematic comparison of the different tools.

Biography:

Prof Lysko is an award-winning engineer, researcher and innovator who works in the wireless communications and networking space. He holds a PhD from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU).

He has worked in both industry and academia in Europe and Africa. The project work ranged from the mining industry, multinationals and a regulator, to advanced applied research. While at the CSIR, his leading experimental research in TVWS enabled the provision of the Internet to over 20 000 users in two African countries and the setting up of the South African national TVWS Regulation. His work also contributed to TVWS regulations in Ghana and the United States of America.

He has authored three patents, a book, two book chapters, over 150 research papers and popular science and news articles, and led the development of numerous technology demonstrators.

Prof Lysko’s professional achievements have been recognised through multiple awards, including four Best Paper awards, and national and CSIR awards; invitations to deliver keynote addresses, plenary, and invited talks; and in serving in the General Chair and Technical Chair roles in several international Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) conferences.

Prof Lysko is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) and a Senior member of the IEEE. He has organised over 100 IEEE-supported events and 3 conferences and holds several international awards for his leadership in volunteering efforts in the IEEE.
