Student Cybersecurity Competition

Held during Fall Area meeting for IEEE Section and Student Branch Training (see https://events.vtools.ieee.org/m/43918 )

The competition consists of a cybersecurity puzzle that can be solved in under an hour by a very skilled programmer having a good day. There will also be a bonus puzzle which is a bit harder than the first one. Warning: these puzzles have pitfalls and if you're not careful you can easily find yourself going down the wrong path!

The main point of this competition is to have fun! There will be "geek gifts" awarded to the first local competitor and the first remote competitor to crack the puzzle. There will also be a prize awarded to the first local competitor to crack the bonus puzzle. Cash value of each prize is around $60.

The details:

Register below to compete.

Eligibility: Must be an IEEE member of a student branch in Region 6 NE Area (Boise, Eastern ID, Utah, or one of the Montana sections) or SW area (Albuquerque, Alamogordo-Holloman, Fort Huachuca, Las Vegas, Los Alamos/Northern New Mexico, Phoenix, San Diego, or Tucson sections).

Participant categories: Local participants are those attending the student leadership training in Boise. All other participants are in the remote category.

Local contestants should bring a laptop with the capability to run their favorite programming language. The puzzle only requires general programming skills. It doesn't require cybersecurity training to solve.

When the competition starts, the puzzle will be sent to you at the email address you provide when you register.
