The IEEE Rochester Section is hosting its Joint Chapters Meeting (JCM) on October 27, 2020. The meeting will be an online digital forum featuring two parallel sessions with technical presentations from chapter and society speakers, a virtual networking session, and a keynote presentation by Dr. Katherine Duncan, 2020 IEEE-USA President-Elect.

Please follow the link to the registration portal and register for the technical events you're interested in. All registered attendees will receive Professional Development Hour (PDH) credits for the technical event they register to attend (limit to 1 per technical session).

The Evolution of the IEEE-USA’s Mission and Vision

Abstract: IEEE-USA is an organizational unit of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE), created to support the career and public policy interests of U.S. members. Through its products and services, IEEE-USA serves as a resource for enhancing the professional growth and career advancement of the U.S. IEEE members. Through the Government Relations programs, IEEE-USA works with all three branches of the federal government to help shape the workforce and technology policy to the benefit of members, the profession and the American public. Dr Duncan will begin by discussing her path to becoming the 2020 IEEE-USA President-Elect, then shall discuss the mission and vision of today’s IEEE-USA.

Biography:

Katherine J Duncan is a Visiting Research Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Science at the US Military Academy, West Point NY. She received the BE and ME degrees from Stevens Institute of Technology, in 1998 and 1999, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in Applied Physics from the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2008. Dr Duncan joined the U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Research, Development and Engineering Center (CERDEC) in 2009, where she serves as a civilian Senior Research Scientist. As a researcher, she has coordinated research projects focused on the development of novel nanomaterials for next-generation communication systems. 

Dr. Duncan has been an IEEE member for 24 years and has served as a student, section and regional volunteer.  She served for two years as the IEEE Region 2 Director.  In this role she ensured the volunteers in the Region were properly trained by providing training opportunities at the region meetings. Also, through region leadership she enabled the volunteers at the region level as to provide services and opportunities to region 2 members.  Katherine also served as an IEEE Women in Engineering Coordinator at the section level and the region level, in these positions she collaborated closely with the Young Professionals Coordinators. From these collaborations, she developed an understand of how to engage the underrepresented members.
